Whispers of the Blackwood

Whispers of the Blackwood was to capture the fragile beauty and profound essence of Tasmania’s unique Blackwood forests. This piece is more than a painting – it is a tangible connection to the land, as it incorporates actual wood shavings from Tasmanian Blackwood trees. Each fragment of wood used in this artwork carries with it the murmurs of ancient trees, and the forests we can visit throughout Tasmania.

Incorporated into this painting were actual Blackwood shavings from furniture maker Peter Rhodes.

Peter opens his creative art space to visitors, and he also offers classes on how to make items including wooden tables and stools. Whispers of the Blackwood is now displayed in his studio in Cygnet, Tasmania.
